Two 0.75L bottles of 2018 Quiñón de Valmira by Álvaro Palacios from Rioja, Spain, a DOC wine.
Description from the seller
The Remondo Rioja Palacios winery is a family business dedicated to wine production for four generations. One of the most notable members of this family is Álvaro Palacios, who also produces wines in Priorat (L'Ermita, Finca Dofí, Les Terrasses) and El Bierzo (Corullón, La Faraona, Petalos). Now, with Remondo, they have a truly modern Rioja estate on the map.
The Quiñón de Valmira 2018 is the only wine produced under Álvaro's personal label and is sold through different channels than the other wines produced at the Palacios Remondo winery in Alfaro.
The Valmira is a 100% Garnacha from a vineyard of just 3 hectares in the Quinón de Valmira area, in the municipality of Alfaro. The soils are calcareous, clayey, and ferruginous with fine sediments. 2018 is one of the finest vintages in Rioja. In 2018, they used approximately 30% whole bunches, which underwent natural fermentation (with the natural yeast present on the grapes) in oak barrels with punch-downs and a maceration of no less than 66 days!
The malolactic fermentation continued in oak barriques and aged for 18 months. The wine is a sparkling ruby red, ethereal, fragrant, and floral, with citrus notes (peel) that exude class and elegance. On the palate, it has fresh and crisp flavors of pomegranate and watermelon that will make you drool. There are tons of spring flowers and aromatic herbs, like those you smell while walking through the countryside on a warm spring day. It has an intoxicating nose, and the mouthfeel is delicate with incredible inner strength. This is Quiñón de Valmira's finest vintage to date and the absolute pinnacle of Rioja. In April 2020, 4,400 bottles were filled. 98/100 Parker
