Description from the seller
The Bendegó meteorite was discovered in 1784 in Brazil and is the largest meteorite ever found in the country, with an original weight of over 5,000 kg. Since 1888, it has been part of the permanent collection of the National Museum of Rio de Janeiro, becoming a symbol of the world’s scientific heritage.
In 2018, after the devastating fire that destroyed much of the museum, the Bendegó meteorite drew international attention by remaining virtually intact among the ashes, further reinforcing its legendary status.
This meteorite belongs to the rare IC group (iron with carbon inclusions), an uncommon classification highly valued for its primitive origin and scientific significance.
- Weight: 8.3 grams.
Packages are usually sent the morning after the auction. Shipping is combined in all my listings - if you win multiple items, only one shipping cost is paid.
About the seller:
My name is Adrian Vilchez Luna, and I am deeply passionate about Astronomy and Planetary Sciences. I hold both a Bachelor’s and a Master’s degree in Planetary Geology and Geophysics.
My interest in meteorites extends far beyond collecting; I actively conduct research on asteroids and meteorites, collaborating with universities and research groups worldwide. This work allows me to bridge scientific research with the preservation and study of extraterrestrial materials.
