Imilac meteorite, a pallasite from Antofagasta, Chile, weighing 11.10 g.
Description from the seller
The Imilac meteorite is one of the most visually stunning and scientifically important pallasites ever discovered. It was found in 1822 in the Atacama Desert, northern Chile, a region renowned for its exceptional meteorite preservation due to its extreme aridity.
Imilac is classified as a pallasite, a rare stony-iron meteorite type, composed of a metallic iron–nickel matrix embedded with large, gem-quality olivine (peridot) crystals. When cut and polished, these translucent crystals create a spectacular appearance, making Imilac one of the most sought-after meteorites by collectors, museums, and researchers alike.
This meteorite formed at the core–mantle boundary of a differentiated asteroid, offering invaluable insights into the internal structure and evolution of early planetary bodies during the formation of the Solar System.
- Weight: 11.1 grams.
Packages are usually sent the morning after the auction. Shipping is combined in all my listings - if you win multiple items, only one shipping cost is paid.
