Description from the seller

Originally created for formal ceremonial wear, this obi has been carefully transformed into a timeless interior piece, allowing traditional Japanese textile art to be enjoyed in a contemporary living space.

- The front side : Woven in refined shades of silver, ivory, soft pink, and soft blue, the surface reveals a subtle platinum-like shimmer that changes beautifully with the light.
* Platinum Foil Weaving
In traditional Japanese textiles, “platinum foil” refers to fine metallic threads—platinum-toned foil threads—woven into the fabric. These threads reflect light softly, creating an elegant, understated brilliance rather than a bold shine.
* Peacock Motif
The peacock is a symbol of beauty, longevity, and prosperity in Japanese art. Its graceful feathers represent elegance and auspicious fortune.
* Chrysanthemum Motif
Associated with the Japanese Imperial Family, the chrysanthemum symbolizes harmony, nobility, and longevity, making it one of the most prestigious traditional motifs.
* Lattice Pattern
The refined lattice design adds structure and rhythm, balancing the organic floral and peacock motifs.

The cushion covers are finished with soft ivory silk side panels and subtle gray piping, enhancing the textile without overpowering it.

- The reverse side : Intentionally kept plain, allowing the woven surface to remain the focal point.
- Lining : A vivid red silk lining, sourced from the inner layer of a Japanese wedding kimono (UCHIKAKE), reveals itself only when opened. This discreet yet striking contrast is an intimate detail inspired by traditional Japanese aesthetics.

A rare opportunity to acquire interior pieces made from authentic Japanese ceremonial textiles, reimagined for modern interiors.

Silk - outside, lining
Polyester - piping code, inner binding tape

As this set is handcrafted from a single vintage Japanese obi, each cushion cover presents subtle variations in tone and pattern placement. These differences are a natural result of the original weaving and the way light interacts with the platinum-toned foil threads, making each piece truly one of a kind.
