Description from the seller
Beautiful painting by Pietro Pantino depicting a woman reading - scene.
Pietro Pantino was born in Palermo in 1941 and already at the age of five, he showed a strong passion for drawing.
At only seven years old, he is attracted to painters who dedicate themselves to decorating Sicilian carts. By ten, he paints his first picture, using a support of faesite casually found on the street.
At twelve, he begins to learn the basic principles from his first teacher, Ernesto Crispino, and, a few years later, attends Professor Albano Rossi, who guides him towards the study of anatomy and advises him to enroll in the art high school.
In 1957, he was exhibited in a group show sponsored by the Municipality of Palermo and the Tourism Board. On this occasion, he was noticed by art critic Carlo Battaglia, who dedicated an article to him in the newspaper 'Grido alla Sicilia.' In this exhibition, he achieved a good success with critics and the public.
In these years at the art high school in Palermo.
Professor Gino Morici studies decoration, life drawing, and cinematic and theatrical scenography.
In 1959, he met other painters and learned various techniques and secrets of painting from them. During this period, the artist also studied sculpture with Francesco Messina and Giuseppe Genovese and attended the Academy of Fine Arts in Palermo. From this experience, he gained a rich background and a particular artistic training, especially in constructive drawing, figurative and architectural profession, also practicing marble sculpture and learning to model with clay.
At the same time, he learns the technique of fresco and during this period works at the 'Casa Professa' church in Palermo. In 1961, Pantino designs large-sized shaped works and stands for the 'Mediterranean Fair'.
Soon after, he meets the master Professor Sabatino Mirabella, an excellent landscape artist, and from the painter Mirabella, admiration and friendship for the artist develop. A few years later, he designs small building constructions, illustrates boards for calendars, postcards, and fashion magazines, sacred images, storyboards, and film posters, as well as sketches for slides. In 1971, he moves to Rome, a city dear to him. Here, Pantino begins a new journey by establishing friendships and contacts with art critics.
An artist with an entirely academic temperament, in terms of studies and titles, he has had numerous students over the years and is a careful scholar of Caravaggio. He is now present in many collections.
