Description from the seller
** NO RESERVE **
Kees Bol, born in Oegstgeest on September 21, 1916, as a country boy, quickly discovered that an artist lived within him, but this did not yet materialize. During the Second World War, Kees got a good job at the Philips light bulb factory. Colleagues inspired Kees with their leisure painting. Kees became adrift. After later deciding to trade his secure, permanent employment for a life as an artist, he left the factory with a small financial contribution from Frits Philips. This enabled Kees to take lessons from Paul Citroen, Henk Meijer, and Han van Dam at the Royal Academy of Art in The Hague. In 1946, the artist established himself as a painter in Eindhoven. In 1950, he was awarded the Thérèse van Duyl-Schwartze Prize for his portraits. From 1951 onward, Kees taught free painting at the Academy in his hometown of Eindhoven. In 1963, he received an honorable appointment as a lecturer in the same discipline at the Hague Academy. Meanwhile, Kees had numerous exhibitions in the 1950s and 1960s, but after that, things went quiet around him and his work. When both of his academies ended in 1972, the art trade began to take notice of Kees's work, and his paintings found their way into many living rooms. Later, exhibitions followed, including those at the Van Abbenmuseum and the Noord-Brabantsmuseum in 's-Hertogenbosch, in honor of his 80th birthday. People queued up to see them. "A Retrospective," at the De Wieger Museum in Deurne in 2005, provided an unprecedented overview of his long career as a painter.
Scene: River landscape (probably on the Maas or the Waal)
Oil on painter's board, size 63.5X74CM. The frame is in good condition, as is the frame. The frame is included free of charge with the work upon pickup; shipping is not included due to size, weight, and fragility. Shipping with the frame is only upon request!
