Francois Valentyn - Beschrijving van Oost-Indie - 2003

Monumental, an eight-volume work titled 'Description of Old and New East Indies' by the Dutch minister and writer François Valentijn (or Valentyn).
This work, originally published between 1724 and 1726, is an accurate and detailed treatise on the Dutch presence, history, geography, flora, fauna, and cultures in Southeast Asia (present-day Indonesia and surrounding areas) in the 17th and early 18th centuries.

Containing a precise and detailed treatise on Dutch power in the regions, along with a comprehensive description of the Moluccas, Amboina, Banda, Timor, and Solor, Java, and all the islands under their land administrations.

The work consists of five parts, bundled in eight volumes with an artificial leather cover, and contains numerous illustrations (162), fold-out maps (79), and detailed illustrations. It is considered one of the most important sources on the history of the VOC and the region during the relevant period.
