Description from the seller

Good complete set in 2 parts of the 1st German edition. In the original linen bindings with illustrations on the covers and ornaments in black and gold embossing. With nearly 300 illustrations/plates and 9 colored fold-out maps on 7 plates.

Condition: wear and stains on the bands, the second part is reinforced with tape at the front cover and endpaper, and at the back of the second part, the binding is visible (still well attached). Inside, there are some rust spots, but overall, it is a very good set. See photos as part of the description.

Sent registered and insured.

Otto Sverdrup was a crucial Norwegian polar explorer and the captain of the legendary ship Fram, famous for his participation in Fridtjof Nansen's first expedition to the North Pole (1893-1896), and subsequently led his own highly successful expedition to the Canadian Arctic (1898-1902) with the modernized Fram, mapping undiscovered areas and claiming the Sverdrup Islands. He is regarded as one of the great Norwegian polar heroes, alongside Nansen and Roald Amundsen.
