A Danish mid-century wall sculpture in solid teak/palisander attributed to Arne Ingdam, model Kraanvogel, measuring 38.5 × 5.4 × 1.5 cm and in good used condition with minor signs of aging.
Description from the seller
Rare Danish modernist teak/rosewood wooden wall sculpture – Arne Ingdam – Crane – circa 1960
An exceptionally elegant and sculptural wall decoration from Denmark, made in solid teak/palisander and designed as a stylized flying bird. This object is a textbook example of the pinnacle of Danish modernism and can be attributed with high certainty to the famous Danish wood artist Arne Ingdam.
The bird is built from a single, flowing, aerodynamic line:
an extremely slender beak, a streamlined body, and an openwork wing that lets light and shadow play on the wall. This formal language is characteristic of Ingdam’s work from the period 1955–1975, in which he gained international fame for his abstract, almost futuristic interpretations of birds in wood.
The sculpture is entirely hand-carved from solid teak/palisander, a beloved material in Scandinavian design due to its warm color, durability, and silky sheen. The natural patina that the wood has developed over the years enhances the sculptural depth and gives the object a particularly rich appearance.
Although the object is unsigned — which is very common for this type of work by Ingdam — its origin is unmistakably recognizable from the characteristic form, proportions, and technique. Such birds were sold in the 1960s through Danish design houses such as Illums Bolighus and Den Permanente and are today beloved collector's items.
