Description from the seller
Photograph from my private collection by the renowned and well-known photographer Chema Madoz, in a 40 cm high by 50 cm wide mount, hand-signed by the artist.
Chema Madoz - 'The Shape in Space'.
In this space, I will comment on Chema Madoz's work, where an element of form appears.
In this work, the element of projection is noticeable, easily recognizable by the perspective of the dirt road that contains the arrow in the middle. This road indicates the depth of the image and becomes narrower the farther away it is.
Chema Madoz
Chema Madoz (Madrid, 1958) is one of the Spanish artists with the highest national and international recognition in contemporary photography. During the 1980s, his photographs offer a theatrical and surreal atmosphere, with some influence from Magritte. From the 1990s onward, Madoz began to move away from the idea of chance and replaced it with a recreation of mental images. He stopped using external elements such as natural light or models and started developing the concept of objects through black and white photography. He maintains careful lighting and simplicity in their presentation. The subjective function of the viewer's gaze, along with the use of a more elaborate and cryptic language, will be a constant theme in his photography.
His work has been exhibited in numerous galleries, museums, and art centers at the national and international level. He has been awarded the Gold Medal for Merit in Fine Arts 2019, the Aula de las Metáforas Award, the National Photography Award by the Ministry of Culture, and the PhotoEspaña Award.
