Description from the seller

Magnificent ship’s desk box.

The box, made in England in the Victorian era (the 19th century), is mahogany with brass fittings. Externally it is reinforced at the corners with original metal corner brackets, which protected it from damage during sea travel.

Inside it features a compartment for pencils and other objects, as well as a secret drawer for documents and/or coins, with red goat leather.

When opened, there is a red leather writing area whose lid lifts to access a lower drawer where more documents could be stored; the writing area is lined with manually sewn red silk velvet.

The box is in very good condition, recently varnished.

On the side there are two inset bronze handles for easier transport.

Internally it contains a multitude of secret drawers for documents, pens, coins, etc., with bone handles.

Open measurements: 60 x 45 x 42 cm.
