De Re militari is a rare incunable edition (1495–96) in one volume with four works by Frontinus, Vegetius, Aelianus and Modestus, bound in limp vellum and densely notated in an ancient hand on 196 pages in Latin.

Fascinating limp vellum, from an ancient manuscript leaf, a very fine and crisp copy on large paper, densely notated in an ancient hand, some nicely rubricated initial letters , end papers renewed,, complete under all respects and freshly preserved.
IImportant collection of works by authors traditionally known as Scriptores rei militaris; edited by Joannes Sulpitius Verulanus and Filippo Beroaldo, the works here included are Frontinus' Stratagematica, Vegetius' De re militari, Aelianus' Tactica (written in Greek, is known by the Latin title) and Modestus’ De vocabulis rei militaris. This latter is believed to have been actually a 15th century copy from Vegetius. The diagrams depicting the position of troops in tactical formations are created by the use of ordinary printer's types.
