Description from the seller
Korai Chawan, Mei: Zuisho
高麗茶碗 銘:瑞祥(こうらいちゃわん めい:ずいしょう)
This Korai chawan is a Korai-style tea bowl produced in the mid-20th century, accompanied by an inscribed wooden box by Ohashi Korin.
Korai tea bowls have long been prized in the Japanese tea ceremony for their rustic dignity and the rich “scenery” created through the interaction of clay and glaze.
The most striking feature of this piece is the boldly developed kairagi (sharkskin-like texture) spreading across the foot, forming a vivid and highly appreciated landscape.
Its balanced form, stable weight, and expressive surface give the bowl a dignified presence, suitable for both formal tea gatherings and serious collections.
The original wooden storage box bears an inscription by Ohashi Korin, a highly respected monk associated with Daitoku-ji Temple.
A Korai-style tea bowl with clearly defined kairagi and a Korin inscription is regarded as a valuable example within the world of tea ceramics.
