Decorative fayence mug with a zinc lid and hand-painted architectural landscape, signed and dating to ca. 1750–1800, height about 23 cm, width 12 cm, depth 16 cm, made in Germany from fayence ceramic, in good condition with minor wear and glaze flaws.
Description from the seller
Decorative fayence jug with tin lid and signature, presumably from the late 18th century. The jug is richly hand-painted and depicts an architectural landscape scene with church or city silhouette as well as floral elements. The typical blue line border and folk painting style suggest a traditional Central European fayence work.
The tin lid is crafted solidly, with a thumb lever and encircling decorative engraving. The curved handle is also hand-painted.
Material: faience / ceramic, tin lid
Height: approximately 23 cm
Epoch: late 18th century (ca. 1750–1800)
Decor: hand-painted cityscape or landscape scene. The figure wears a so-called three-cornered hat, knickerbockers, and a justaucorps (long coat). This is the classic fashion of Rococo or the late 18th century.
Condition: age-appropriate good condition, with signs of use and aging, fine hairline cracks in the glaze (typical for fayence), minor areas of abrasion; the tin lid shows patina and slight damage.
No visible restorations.
A beautiful collector's mug for lovers of antique ceramics, faience, or historic beer mugs – also excellent as a decorative piece.
