The Bureau for Jewish Statistics was an organization established in Berlin at the beginning of the 20th century with the aim of promoting research into the social conditions of Jews in all countries using the tools and methods of scientific statistics.
Alfred Nossig, who later became chairman, founded an association in Halensee in 1902 after many years of preparatory work. In 1903, this association published the collected work 'Jewish Statistics.' Once the main Jewish organizations and communities were convinced of the association's objectives and their financial support was secured, the association established a permanent office in Berlin on October 1, 1904. Local branches of the office were also established in Frankfurt am Main, Munich, and Berlin.
In particular, the directors Jacob Segall and Arthur Ruppin made significant contributions to the history of German Judaism. Starting in January 1905, the Bureau, under Ruppin's editorship, published the monthly journal Journal for Demography and Statistics of the Jews, which published articles on the anthropology of the Jews by statisticians as well as anthropologists such as Felix von Luschan, Maurice Fishberg, Arkadius Elkind, and Samuel Weissenberg.
