About the artist
Evert Moll (1878-1955) was born in Voorburg. He lived and worked there until 1930, but also in London (1899-1905), Paris, Rotterdam, and The Hague, where he died.
He was self-taught but had contact with Willem Maris (1844-1910) and a member of the Pulchri Studio. Besides painting, he also worked as an art dealer. His works are preserved in the Zuiderzeemuseum and the Museum Boijmans-van Beuningen.
His paintings are a good example of Moll's skills in the genre of sea views, an area in which he specialized alongside landscape painting. Moll was particularly interested in port life, which he extensively depicted in his body of work.
