Offered here is an original Edo-period illustrated book titled Shaka Hassō Yamato Bunko, Volume 3 (Part One), published in 1846 (Kōka 3). The text was written by Mantei Ōga, a well-known gesaku author of the late Edo period, and the illustrations were created by Utagawa Toyokuni, one of the most influential ukiyo-e masters of the Utagawa school.
This work belongs to the popular genre of illustrated literary books that combined narrative prose with expressive woodblock images.
