Description from the seller
Photographs from the 1950s by Jean-Philippe Charbonnier for the magazine Réalités.
Panama, 1955.
Good condition, light creases, and signs of handling.
With Édouard Boubat and Jean-Louis Swiners, he was part of the leading trio of reporters for the magazine Réalités starting in 1950. During the 1950s, he sporadically took some fashion photographs, photographing models outdoors in Paris.
In the 1970s, he turned to institutional photography, working for major groups such as Carrefour, Renault, Royal Air Maroc, etc., as well as for the Ministry of Labour.
He taught at ESAG Penninghen and in England.
Invited by Michel Tournier, Charbonnier participated in the first Rencontres d'Arles in 1970 as a guest of honor, notably with the exhibition 'Denis Brihat, Jean-Philippe Charbonnier, Jean-Pierre Sudre' presented by Michel Tournier.
He decided to leave the magazine Réalités in 1974.
Comparable to Walker Evans and Charbonnier, through his reports around the world and especially through his subjects captured in his close environment in France, he is a witness to the second half of the 20th century. His photos are distributed by the Gamma-Rapho agency.
Jean-Philippe Charbonnier died in Grasse on May 28, 2004, at the age of 82.
