AI-assisted summary

Description from the seller

Tademait Plateau 012 28.81794N, 0.92253E
Adrar, Algeria
Find: February 2024
Classification: Ordinary chondrite (H5)

History: Reportedly, this material was found in February 2024 in Algeria, and later acquired by Mohamed Ali Loud in Nouadhibou, Mauritania.

Petrography: (K. Metzler, IfP) Equilibrated ordinary chondrite with clearly visible chondrules and chondrule fragments. Secondary feldspar grains are mostly micrometers. High amounts of Fe-Ni metal, slightly oxidized by terrestrial weathering.

Geochemistry: Mineral compositions and geochemistry: Mean olivine composition: Fa18.5±0.2 (Fa18.1-19.0; n=11); mean low-Ca pyroxene composition: Fs16.1±0.3 Wo1.1±0.1 (Fs15.6-16.6 Wo0.9-1.3; n=11).

Classification: H chondrite based on mineral chemistry. Petrologic type 5 due to the equilibrated state of olivine and pyroxene and grain size of secondary plagioclase.

Shock stage: C-S2
Weathering grade: W1
Classifier: K. Metzler, IfP.

Additional information: Some pieces show a crust of iron hydroxides that has 'captured' and cemented the contacting quartz grains.
This lot comes with a certificate of authenticity.
