Art Kane, born Arthur Kanofsky on April 9, 1925, in New York, and died on February 3, 1995, was an American photographer.
Active from the 1950s to the early 1990s, he notably created numerous portraits of musicians including Bob Dylan, Sonny and Cher, Aretha Franklin, Frank Zappa, Jim Morrison, Janis Joplin, The Rolling Stones, and The Who.
The most famous photograph is A Great Day in Harlem.
This portfolio, a unique and little-known passion for photographing toilets, was gifted by the artist to the gallery owner Georges Bardawil in 1978.
