Original edition biography of Henri IV by historian Pierre de Vaissière, 1st edition published in 1928 in French, 706 pages, in good condition, one of 35 heavy paper copies on Hollande with no. 33, from the Grandes études historiques collection.
Description from the seller
Original edition. A reference biography of Henri IV published by historian Pierre de Vaissière in the collection of 'Grandes études historiques.'
Very rare head print, one of the first 35 on Hollande, the only large paper with the 75 on pure fiber vellum; bears the number 33.
Paperback volume, printed cover in black (insolée). Creases on the spine, small tears without severity at the tips of the headbands. Fresh interior. Beautiful uncut copy with margins preserved (some insolée margins).
Pierre de Vaissière (1867-1943) dedicated himself to reviving the great figure of the monarch who tirelessly worked towards the pacification of the kingdom, Henri IV. The book he dedicated to him is one of the most beautiful he has written, because he managed, without burdening his reader with a heavy apparatus of erudition, to provide the most reliable account, where tested judgments alternate with vivid narratives. Moreover, the Béarnais was well suited to attract Pierre de Vaissière, who was also a speaker with a vivid language, a man of contrasts, but one who found in the solidity of his provincial roots the reason that sets a law and, finally, dare I say, the apostle of non-conformism...
