A volume in-16 (135x75 mm), full calf, ornamented spine with raised bands (period binding). Wear and rubbing on the covers. Slight surface crack on the fourth cover's edge. Pages browned.

In 1662, when Colbert launched his reform of waters and forests, he appointed Froidour as the king's prosecutor with the commissioner in charge of the forests north of Paris. In 1673, Froidour was appointed grand master of Water and Forests in Toulouse. His concern for training guards and officers was constant. In 1683, Froidour published this remarkable work on everything guards need to know. His 'Concise Instruction for the Guards of Water and Forests' was reprinted until 1765 to serve as training for guards throughout the kingdom.
