Description from the seller
The Swiss watch brand Eterna, founded in 1856 in Grenchen by Mr. Josef Girard and Urs Schild, is part of a renowned chapter in the history of watchmaking. Over the years, the brand has built a strong reputation through technical innovations and refined design. Eterna also distinguished itself aesthetically, notably with elegant watches from the interwar period that continue to serve as inspiration for watches today.
On the occasion of the 140th anniversary of the brand, Eterna launched a special tribute to its rich design history in 1996: the Eterna 1935 ‘Les Historiques 140 Years Limited Edition’. This watch, designed as a rectangular dress watch, exudes pure Art Deco and is limited worldwide to a run of only 140 pieces, making the model an exclusive collector's item.
The stainless steel case measuring 36 × 25 mm, excluding the lugs and crown, features elegant proportions and frames a refined white dial with gold-colored Arabic hour markers, pointed gold-colored indices, and a small seconds window at the 6 o'clock position. The design is clearly rooted in the thirties: minimalist, harmonious, and timelessly stylish. Inside, a beautifully finished mechanical movement with 17 jewels and blued screws ticks, wound by turning the crown. Another notable detail is the transparent case back, allowing the movement to be admired at any time.
Engraving '140 Years 1856–1996' and the individual limited-edition number 002/140 on the back of the watch indicate that this is the second piece from the limited series of a total of 140 units. The piece is supplied on a beautiful blue leather strap, which is in good condition. Additionally, the original brown leather strap with the original Eterna clasp is included, and it is also still in good condition. The watch features the original crown and is in overall very good condition. The movement of the watch is accurate and winds smoothly, as it has previously undergone a service.
Overall, this is a very rare and stylish Eterna, appealing to both Art Deco enthusiasts and serious collectors.
