Elegant Longquan celadon ceramic cup plate from China, dating to the Yuan-Ming dynasties, 19 cm in diameter and 4 cm high, attributed as Original with restoration required, from a private collection.
Description from the seller
Elegant bowl with a cup-shaped dish in celadon from Longquan, China
This rare and authentic earthenware bowl is a fine example of the renowned production from the Longquan kilns in Zhejiang Province, China. These pieces were highly prized for their thick and rich glaze, which mimics the smooth color and texture of jade.
Dimensions: approximately 19 cm in diameter and 4 cm in height.
Description: The bowl has a flared shape with a slightly inward rim and a small unglazed ring foot with an earthenware color, known among collectors as 'iron foot.' This foot color is more commonly found in the official Southern Song kiln or in Junyao porcelain kilns.
This plate remains a typical exception of the productions from that era due to the color of its clay.
The celadon glaze is of an olive gray-green hue, deep and uniform. The visible wear at the center of the basin and on the rim testifies to long use and the venerable age of the object.
Condition: Good overall condition considering its age, with signs of wear, slight imperfections from use, and a stabilized fine crack (fissure) on the right edge, visible in the photographs.
Provenance
This Longquan celadon stoneware plate comes from a carefully assembled European private collection. The piece was acquired on the international Asian art market from specialized sources and has been kept since its acquisition within a rigorously selected framework in my collection of Chinese cult objects. Unfortunately, no documented ancient provenance has been provided prior to its entry into my collection.
A fascinating collectible object for enthusiasts and professionals of ancient Asian art and historical ceramics.
