Description from the seller
A very beautiful work by René Billotte (1846-1914), a great 19th-century painter depicting a view of the Norman coast, an emblematic theme of the artist. We can see paintings by René Billotte at the Musée Carnavalet or at the Musée d'Orsay.
The composition is characterized by a subtle and nuanced atmosphere, with a delicate handling of materials and a restrained palette, typical of late 19th-century maritime landscapes.
The work features an old dedication indicating a painting that was either gifted or commissioned, a detail particularly sought after by enthusiasts and collectors. Next to the dedication, we find the signature of René Billotte.
The dedication adds a personal and historical dimension to the painting.
The canvas is mounted on an antique frame and presented in a carved wooden frame with a gilded decoration, in good condition, harmonizing with the period of the painting.
The painting is in good condition, but on the back of the canvas, we see some alterations or dirt related to age, and it would benefit from a light cleaning.
