Qing Dynasty celadon stoneware bowl from Longquan, 13.5 cm in diameter and 5.5 cm high, titled Bol en grès céladon 'Longquan'.
Description from the seller
Celadon stoneware bowl of the 'Longquan' type.
This bowl is a fine example of Chinese celadon production from the Longquan region, renowned for its rich and deep glazes.
Main Features
Material and Glaze: Made of stoneware (a high-temperature ceramic), it is covered with a thick, luminous celadon glaze in shades of [olive green/sea green/blue-green]. This glaze is characterized by a network of fine, random crackles, known as ice cracks (binglie), which add texture and character to the piece. The glaze stops sharply at the level of the ring foot.
The base (see image) features a sturdy ring foot at the bottom, left unglazed. The raw clay, biscuit-fired, has taken on a characteristic chamois/brown-cinnamon hue during firing, creating a striking contrast with the smooth, glazed surface of the celadon glaze.
Shape and dimensions: With a conical or flared shape, the bowl has harmonious proportions. It measures 13.5 cm in diameter and 5.5 cm in height.
Aesthetic: The piece embodies the classical aesthetic of Chinese ceramics, where the simplicity of the form highlights the beauty and depth of the monochrome glaze.
