Giuseppe Gherardi was born in Florence in 1788 and most likely trained at the Academy of Fine Arts in Florence during the transition period between the Napoleonic reign and the Restoration. His earliest known work is The Piazza del Granduca, a now lost work, executed in 1819 and presented at the Academy Exhibition.
