Goed. Schaaf- en stootplekjes banden, wat papierverlies platten. Binnenwerk verkleurd (op de foto's wat lichter dan in werkelijkheid), hier en daar een plek. Stempel op dek- of schutblad. Krabbeltje bovenaan titelblad. Enige ezelsoortjes. Initialen in ondermarge laatste pagina van beide delen. Twee putjes in zijmarge van de eerste 20 bladen. 

Deel 4, bevat de oorspronkelijke delen 7  en 8.



Van Effen is bekend geworden door zijn uitgave van de Hollandsche Spectator die verschijnt van augustus 1731 tot april 1735. Hoewel hij enkele vaste medewerkers heeft, worden de meeste stukken door Van Effen zelf geschreven.Hij becommentarieert de Nederlandse geest, de zuinigheid, de schoonmaakwoede, onmatige eet- en drinkgewoontes en provincialisme. Zijn stijl is rationaliserend, nuchter. De beroemd geworden novelle van Van Effen, Kobus en Agnietje, verschijnt in 1733 voor het eerst in het blad.
