Sergio Dangelo, Artico, mixed media on panel (oil on panel), dated 1963, original edition, hand-signed, in excellent condition, Italy, 65 × 85 cm, framed, weight 8 kg.
Description from the seller
Sergio Dangelo (Milan, 1932 – Milan, 2022) was an Italian painter and illustrator. In the early 1950s, together with Enrico Baj, he founded the Nuclear Painting Movement, a movement that many artists would join, including Joe Colombo, Gianni Dova, Piero Manzoni, Franco Palumbo.
Dangelo's nuclear painting starts from a reflection on modernity ever more focused on atomic research; the aim is to reconstruct a hypothetical nuclear landscape through the broadest experimentation with materials and techniques.
Among the group exhibitions, his participation is recalled at the São Paulo Biennial, at the Paris Biennale, at the Milan Triennale, in 1986 at the XI Quadriennale of Rome, at the Venetian editions of 1958, 1964, 1966, 1972, 1980, 1986, with a solo room in 1966.
In this painting, oil on panel, entitled "Artico", he displays his full capacity for painterly expression that has always distinguished him throughout his long career.
The painting shows a surreal landscape characterized by a large yellow moon (or sun) on a background that fades from red-violet to blue-violet, with triangular and wavy geometric shapes in the foreground, probably representing stylized hills or dunes.
On the back, the title and the artist's signature.
Painting size: 51 x 70 cm.
The lot will be carefully packed and shipped with affiliated couriers and with online tracking. For this lot, shipping outside the European Community is not available.
