Museum-quality neatly carved raised Cornelian shell cameo pendant which can also be worn as a brooch depicting Orpheus the famous Thracian bard founder of Orphic mysteries
Orpheus is depicted wearing a chiton his curly head is crowned with laurel leaves, and to his left there's a lyre
The cameo is mounted on a braided solid gold frame, marked 15 and tested for 15ct gold
It was carved by an Italian master craftsman and the frame was made in the UK in the late Victorian period, circa 1890-1900
In very good antique condition, free of cracks and other blemishes
Height: 4.3cm
Width: 3.6cm
Weight: 13.44 grams
Comes in a high-quality leather & velvet maroon red square box by reputable British Crown jewellers Garrard & Co, which is also in very good condition
