Two-volume hardcover edition of C. Julii Cæsaris Commentariorum de Bello Gallico / Les Commentaires de César by Julius Caesar, Lyon, 1771, Latin original with a parallel French translation, 538 pages in Tomo 2 and 448 in Tomo 1, bound in full morocco with marbleized edges.
Description from the seller
DESCRIPTION: I present at auction a beautiful copy of the 'Commentaries on the Gallic War' (C. Julius Caesar's Commentarii de Bello Gallico / Les Commentaires de César), the masterpiece of the famous Roman general and politician JULIUS CAESAR (100–44 BC), in which he masterfully and engagingly narrates the conquest of Gaul (modern France and Belgium). Caesar is considered one of the great masters of the Latin language.
Our book contains the original version of the work in Latin and the parallel translation into French.
In addition to the 'Commentaries on the Gallic War,' our book includes another fascinating work: the 'Commentaries on the Civil War,' in which Caesar describes his struggle for power against Pompey. Our book also includes the so-called 'Cesariano Corpus,' which comprises the Alexandrian War, the African War, and the Spanish War.
In his works, Caesar, in addition to narrating the development of his campaigns and the daily aspects of the Roman army (tactics, weaponry, organization, etc.), provides ethnographic descriptions of the Celtic and Germanic peoples, including topics such as social and military organization, religion, and language, which to this day remain essential studies for experts in various fields.
Beautiful edition of the must-have classic of Julius Caesar. Don't let it slip away.
Please provide the Latin text you'd like translated into French, so I can assist with the parallel translation.
