Wooden watch strap of the time with blind-embossed semi-leather cover and clasp remnants.

VD 16, L 2231; Adams L 1392; Hieronymus, Basler Book Illustrations 132; see Schulte II, 534. - Still an early edition of the work first published in 1497. Consistently rubricated.

CONDITION: Very beautiful and good example in the original binding. Inside, there are occasional light browning and minor water stains. At the beginning, there are a few worm traces, with the title woodcut and the text block only slightly affected. The first pages have a few reinforcements at the margins, backed with Japanese paper and reattached, while the last pages are slightly loosened, with some reinforcements at the margins and worm traces at the fore-edge. Very few marginal notes in ink. The binding is rubbed, chipped, and the capitals are bumped; the front wooden cover has a hole.
