Notes about the author:
Arthur Joseph Dupagne, Liège 1895, Brussels 1961
He studied at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts of Liège. Between 1927 and 1935 he traveled to the Belgian Congo, where he worked as an engineer in the exploitation of diamond deposits. This journey brought him into contact with the culture of Congolese ethnic groups, which influenced his style. Returning to Belgium, he devoted himself entirely to sculpture. His African-influenced style inspired monumental sculptures that earned him numerous commissions, including one for the 1938 Paris Universal Exposition and another for the 1939 New York World's Fair. He also participated in the 1958 Universal Exposition in Brussels[2].
His work is found, among other places, in the Walloon Art Museum of Liège, in the Ixelles Municipal Museum of Fine Arts, in the Royal Museum for Central Africa in Tervuren, and in the Institute of Tropical Medicine in Antwerp.
He died in Brussels in 1961.
