Description from the seller
Recently offered, a beautiful and characteristic work by the Dutch artist Johannes (Joh) Rockx. This atmospheric oil painting is a prime example of Dutch painting from the interwar period.
This painting depicts a characteristic idyllic farm with an imposing thatched roof and the region's typical whitewashed walls. Rockx employs a style that balances between Realist Impressionism and the Larense School.
The strength of this work lies in the treatment of light. The artist has captured the moment when the bright sunlight reflects off the facade, creating a beautiful contrast with the deep shadows under the overhanging roofs and the lush foliage. The loose, confident brushstrokes in the trees give the painting a lively dynamism and depth.
Period: The painting was created between 1925 and 1940. During this period, Rockx reached his artistic peak, and his sunlit landscapes were highly sought after.
About the artist:
Johannes Rockx (1894-1949), active in the Roosendaal area, was a valued painter of landscapes, farms, and interiors. His work is included in various regional collections and is appreciated for its technical skill and nostalgic depictions of the disappearing Dutch countryside.
List: including the displayed classic gilded ornaments. Please note, the list is slightly damaged.
Condition: In good condition, the colors are bright, and the canvas is intact.
