Hand-carved Madonna with Child – Polychrome Wood – Southern Germany – ca. 1900

Finely hand-carved wooden sculpture depicting the Virgin Mary holding the Christ Child. The child holds a globe, symbolizing Christ as Salvator Mundi.

Mary is shown standing on clouds and wearing a radiant halo, a traditional iconography of the Immaculate Virgin.
The figure is carved from solid wood and polychrome painted, with traces of original gilding on the halo and garment details.

The gentle facial expressions and flowing drapery are characteristic of late 19th to early 20th century devotional folk art from Southern Germany or the Alpine region.
