Description from the seller

Rarest first edition of this sea-themed fairy tale, which was meant to be accompanied by music in the theatrical performance.

Giovanni Villafranchi was born in Volterra on an imprecise date in the 16th century and died in 1614 while sailing towards Naples. He composed some works, influenced by Guarini and Ariosto, but mainly by Tasso.

Amaranta. Fishing fable by Mr. Giovanni Villifranchi. First published in Venice, Bernardo Giunti, Gio. Battista Ciotti, & associates, 1610.

PP.: 115, (V). Complete.

Example with cards in generally good condition, showing the usual signs of use and age, as well as moisture damage. There are small, widespread wormholes that also affect some letters of text (the larger ones on the first 10 cards have been professionally restored).

18th-century softcover in marbled cardboard, well preserved.

Seller's Story

I am always interested in purchasing individual works and/or entire libraries to help my bibliophile clients enrich their collections with rare and valuable pieces.
