Brand: Bulova
Model: Selfwinding
Serial Number: E83509
Movement: Automatic Caliber 11 ALAC
Dial: Silver Sunburst
Case Size: 33 mm (excluding the crown)
Case Material: Gold Plated / Stainless Steel
Production Year: 1966
Condition: Good vintage condition with timegrapher results of -19s to -24s/day. Which indicates healthy movement.
Dial and Hands
The watch features a well-preserved silver sunburst dial that catches the light beautifully. It is adorned with applied gold-tone baton indices and stylized Arabic numerals at the 12, 6, and 9 o'clock positions, adding a touch of typographic flair. The gold-tone dauphine hands feature vintage lume inserts that have aged to a warm tone, matching the lume plots on the dial. A date aperture is framed at the 3 o'clock position. The text is crisp, displaying the applied "Bulova" logo and printed "Selfwinding" designation.
Case and Crystal
The 33mm case is finished in a polished gold tone and is defined by its elegant, slightly flared lugs which provide a dressier profile than standard round cases of the period. The case shows honest signs of vintage wear with surface scratches and some wear to the plating on the high edges, consistent with its age. It is fitted with a signed Bulova crown. The caseback is a two-piece screw-down design in stainless steel, stamped with the serial number and technical attributes. The acrylic crystal is clear and presents well.
Movement
Powering the watch is the robust Bulova caliber 11 ALAC automatic movement. This Swiss-made, 17-jewel mechanism features a distinct rotor design and is stamped with the "M6" date code, confirming its production in 1966. The movement is clean and is currently running within vintage tolerances.
Strap
The watch is fitted with a new reddish-brown leather strap featuring an alligator grain pattern and contrasting yellow stitching, which complements the gold tones of the case and adds a sporty yet elegant character to the watch.
Condition
This timepiece is in good vintage condition. The dial remains bright and clean with very little patina, making it a standout feature. The case shows normal wear expected from a watch of this era, including scratches and softening of the gold plating on the lugs and bezel edges. The movement is functioning correctly, and the timegrapher results indicate reliable vintage performance.
Dimensions
The case measures 33mm in diameter excluding the crown, offering a classic vintage proportion that slides easily under a dress cuff.
Remarks
This Bulova Selfwinding is a quintessential example of 1960s everyday luxury. Its combination of a legible date display, automatic winding, and stylish case design makes it a versatile choice for collectors looking for a wearable piece of history.
