AI-assisted summary

Description from the seller

EL PALCO is a 70 x 100 cm painting by the artist Flavia Delgado. This painting captures a moment filled with suggested theatricality and tension. Two elegantly dressed figures—a woman with a large blue hat and a man with a top hat—share a theater balcony amid red curtains and a golden set design that evokes old European theaters.

The scene, seemingly static, is imbued with latent energy. The woman's posture, supported by her hand and turned towards her companion, suggests a silent dialogue or a meaningful wait. He, on the other hand, remains more restrained, in an ambiguous attitude that oscillates between attentiveness and mystery.

The use of thick black lines and intense color planes (red, ochre, sky blue) gives the piece a graphic aesthetic reminiscent of Art Nouveau posters or Modernist engravings, evoking artists like Toulouse-Lautrec or the illustrators of the fin de siècle. However, Flavia Delgado's perspective offers a contemporary reading, where the silence between the two characters speaks louder than any words.

The work, more than representing a theatrical scene, is in itself a scene loaded with symbolism: the play of roles, appearances, the public intimacy of the theater, the suspended moment before the act.

Seller's Story

I present a pictorial work line strongly linked to illustration and artistic poster design. My works combine the language of classic poster art with the plastic freedom of contemporary painting: flat colors, defined contours, direct scenes, and a clear narrative sense. My work dialogues with the tradition of 20th-century poster art, especially with the universe of Art Deco and European and North American advertising posters, where authors like A. M.. Cassandre, Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec, and Leonetto Cappiello used synthetic imagery and color for visual impact. There are also affinities with European comic graphics and the clear line, from Hergé to modern editorial illustration. In my paintings, I depict interiors, architectures, figures, and travel scenes—such as roads, vintage cars, or landscapes—approached from a graphic perspective reminiscent of posters and illustrated books, but transferred to the realm of painting on paper and canvas. I aim for each image to function like a frame or a narrative poster, capable of suggesting a broader story without needing to explain it.
