Antique Italian Rococo-style wall mirror in carved wood, dating to the first half of the 20th century.
Description from the seller
Important Italian Rococo-style mirror from the 20th century in carved and gilded wood.
Elegant and refined original Italian Rococo mirror, datable to the 20th century (18th-century style), entirely hand-carved in wood and gilded with gouache, of great artistic quality and remarkable decorative impact.
The frame features a wavy and undulating line, typical of Rococo taste, with a rich ornamental decoration composed of asymmetrical scrolls, foliage, and finely carved floral motifs. The elaborate and scenographic upper crest adds dynamism and harmony to the overall design, making the mirror a striking element with strong aesthetic presence.
Particularly noteworthy is the inner border, deliberately crafted in a greenish-blue hue, designed as an integral part of the decorative project and not due to wear or loss of gilding. This refined chromatic pairing, typical of Italian production in the 18th century—especially in the Venetian and Tuscan regions—was intentionally used to create contrast with gold, enhance its brightness, and give the composition greater visual depth.
The original gold leaf in guazzo, applied on bolo, retains an authentic patina with natural wear consistent with the age of the work, which attests to its originality and the absence of invasive modern interventions. The back clearly reveals an ancient artisanal craftsmanship, with signs of manual excavation, structural irregularities, and the use of traditional materials, confirming the pre-industrial creation of the object.
The mirror, also shaped and perfectly integrated into the frame, contributes to the overall balance and elegance of the mirror.
It is an important 18th-century decorative object, ideal for classic environments, antique collections, or as a striking feature in contemporary interiors.
