Description from the seller
Q. Horace Flaccus's four books of Odes; the Epodes, the Saecular Hymn, with Porphyry, Antonius Manciatus, and Ascensius as interpreters. His own Ars Poetica, the two books of Sermons, and the same number of Epistles. Translated by John Britan of Brixia. Additionally, a new interpreter includes two very rich collections of words, fables, and histories of all that are contained in these commentaries.
(colophon:) Venice: by William of Fontaneto of Monteferrato, April 7, 1520
Extremely rare post-incunabula edition in folio.
Frontispiece within a rich frame, in red and black.
The eleven engravings are wonderful, except for the one from the first card, which is missing.
55 beautiful large xilographic initials and hundreds of small ones.
Orazian text surrounded by comments from Josse Bade (1462 - 1535).
Numerous handwritten notes from an ancient hand, also on the frontispiece.
Antique leather binding with abrasions on the spine and the front cover slightly loosened.
Crisp pages perfectly preserved, with rare restorations (such as on the last page); also present are signs of old humidity and slight reddening. One index sheet and the first page are missing; otherwise, the collection is collated and complete.
Overall, the book is very good and well preserved, as shown in the photo, which is included as an integral part of the description.

Pages: (5); II-CCXXXIIII
