Josep Maria Miralles (Barcelona, 1937) is a Catalan painter and illustrator with an extensive artistic career. He dedicated his life to drawing and painting, starting with a fresh style in his youth and evolving towards realism due to the demands of the international market, especially when he worked for the United States through Selecciones Ilustradas in the 1970s.
Miralles has created numerous works illustrating themes related to youth, women, children, and religion, collaborating with renowned publishers such as Tyndale and Reader’s Digest, and participating in popular licenses like Star Wars. Additionally, he exhibited his pictorial work in galleries in Barcelona, Arenys de Mar, and Olot, among others, showcasing pieces that range from realism to abstraction, employing techniques that include collage and the use of diverse materials.
His work oscillates between figuration and abstraction, addressing themes such as identity and migration, and stands out for its technical mastery, vibrant color, and expressiveness that does not leave the viewer indifferent.
