Rumiko Takahashi (born in 1957) is one of Japan's most influential and prolific manga artists. She is notably known for series such as Urusei Yatsura, Maison Ikkoku, Ranma ½, and Inuyasha. Her work, which blends humor, romance, and fantasy, has been translated into many languages. Lum is the heroine of Urusei Yatsura, Takahashi's first major work, originally published in 1978. The character quickly became an icon of 1980s manga and anime, recognizable by her tiger-striped bikini and her explosive personality.
In the 1990s, Urusei Yatsura experienced a significant resurgence in popularity, giving rise to a new wave of posters, reissues, and collectibles.
Interesting fact: Rumiko Takahashi hadn't planned Lum to become the main character. Initially, she was a supporting character… but readers became so attached to her that she became the central figure of the series and one of the most popular in the entire history of manga.
