In this painting, the composition unfolds through large horizontal fields of colour that create a contemplative yet emotionally charged atmosphere. The upper band — dominated by deep reds and dark tonalities, crossed by expressive dripping marks — evokes a gothic or medieval sense of tension, as if we were facing an ancient sky filled with mystery and psychological weight. Behind these dark veils, small geometric structures seem partially concealed, suggesting distant cities, hidden architectures or interior worlds that remain only partly revealed.

Beneath this, a wide yellow field opens a quiet inner space. On this luminous plane, a small red cube appears in a state of calm isolation — not separated from the world, but turned inward, contemplative. Nearby, a circular form — sun, moon, or perhaps both — introduces a symbolic and timeless presence.

In the lower section, fragile ladder-like incisions rise from the earthy base toward the unknown above. These subtle staircases — a recurring element in the artist’s visual language — evoke ascent, transition and inner journey. They suggest the movement of the mind itself: its rhythms, hesitations and attempts to approach what cannot be fully seen.

The pulse of the work moves between silence and tension, between medieval darkness and contemporary abstraction, between the serenity of colour and the unease of concealment. The geometric forms function as inner architectures or fragments of memory in transit, while colour sets the emotional climate of the space.

The painting exists in a delicate balance: poetic yet structured, contemplative yet enigmatic.

About the artist

Maurizio Valch is a visual artist, writer and graphic designer, trained in Graphic Design and Fine Arts. He lived in Miami (USA) until 2013, where he ran his own studio, and later in Barcelona (Spain), where he took part in exhibitions at the Royal Artistic Circle. In 2017 he presented a work at the Gran Teatre del Liceu. He has also collaborated with the MACBA.

His work combines poetic surrealism, abstraction and symbolic language. Recurring elements such as staircases, portals, celestial forms and minimal architectural traces appear as metaphors for consciousness, memory and transcendence. Many of his paintings are accompanied by original poetic texts.
