Original edition of the novel given by Max Jacob (1876-1944). A limited edition, one of fifty copies on Lafuma pure fiber paper; this one is number 23.

Complete in two volumes bound in attractive half-ebony morocco with bands, rounded spines decorated with a gilded fleur-de-lis, with the title and date. Gilt tops, covers, and spines preserved.
A perfect, uncut copy, in excellent condition. Slight white marks on the leather, impeccable interior. Rare.

We are at the center of Bouchaballe field, at the Municipal Theatre of Quimper. Bouchaballe is the name of the generous donor of the land.
This legacy, at the end of the last century, fiercely ignited passions in the city of Quimper. Was it necessary to build a theatre or an old people's home in this orchard? Would coal be extracted from it? The banks of the Odet long echoed with quarrelsome shouts or sneaky whispers carried away by the tide. Then Max Jacob arrived, becoming the sardonic historian of this quarrel between the local conservatives and progressives. It results in one of the best novels in the realist genre.
