Description from the seller
MiLo – “Registered Field”
A work by Amsterdam-based artist MiLo (1976).
Registered Field is a restrained abstract composition built around repetition, interruption, and balance. A field of small cross-like marks forms a rhythmic structure across the surface, while a darker central band disrupts this order, drawing the eye inward.
The contrast between the methodical markings and the dense, worked center creates a tension between measurement and intuition. The crosses suggest counting, notation, or mapping, while the layered graphite-like textures introduce uncertainty and erosion into the otherwise systematic field.
Executed in matte acrylic with extensive scraping and reworking, the surface retains visible traces of process. The composition reads simultaneously as a register, a landscape, and a conceptual grid—open to interpretation yet grounded in structure.
The painting can be hung in any orientation (portrait, landscape, or rotated), allowing the balance between field and interruption to shift with its presentation.
The painting will be rolled up and shipped in a sturdy tube or box, without frame, and includes a signed certificate of authenticity.

About the artist
MiLo (1976) is an Amsterdam-based artist with a background in photography and art studies. Over the years he has sold more than 800 original works, now residing in private collections, hotels, restaurants, and offices across Europe, the United States, Hong Kong, and Taiwan.
His practice spans from early Pollock-inspired action paintings to precise geometric compositions, and to the layered, scratched surfaces he often explores today.
In his current work, MiLo investigates the tension between construction and erosion, layering and scraping the painted surface until traces emerge. These may recall urban structures, geological strata, or remnants of thought — yet the imagery is never fixed. Each canvas evolves through process and chance, allowing multiple interpretations to surface beyond any single theme.
Each work forms part of an ongoing exploration of abstraction, memory, and transformation, making MiLo one of the most prolific and recognizable contemporary artists on Catawiki.
