Description from the seller
This cut crystal vase signed Val Saint Lambert, model 'Volute', represents a particularly rare interpretation of an emblematic piece in Belgian glassmaking, here datable to the 1960s. Originally conceived as a sculptural vase that showcases the work of the material and its movement, this example is distinguished by a chartreuse green color and unusual proportions, very far from the more classic hues typically offered in the catalog. The signature inscribed with a stylus, 'Val St Lambert', under the base confirms unambiguously its attribution to the renowned crystal manufactory.
The vase presents a dynamic twisted form with three “branches” vertical, which wind subtly around a central axis, creating a very fluid upward movement. The crystal, thick and perfectly controlled, is artisanally cut: geometric and radiating motifs are finely engraved, contrasting with zones left smooth in order to reinforce depth and reflection effects. The chartreuse green tint, luminous and dense, runs through the mass of crystal and accentuates the reading of the cuts, while imparting the whole a marked sculptural presence. This handmade work suggests a piece produced outside the usual standards: either for a special commission, or as an exercise in virtuosity by a master cutter within the workshop, without necessarily bearing the “P.U.” designation reserved for pieces officially declared unique.
The condition is excellent. The vase shows no chips or cracks; only very light signs of use, tiny and consistent with an object of this nature, are visible on careful examination. There is also the presence of small internal inclusions in the material, characteristic of the crystal and its fabrication, with no structural impact or aesthetic alteration: they attest to the manufacturing process and are in no way accidents.
In the 1950s–1960s, Val Saint Lambert experiences a period of creative renewal marked by the exploration of free forms, sculptural volumes, and by highlighting the craftsmanship of the cutters. While continuing a prestige production, the manufactory then encourages bold formal research, often realized in small series or for experimental purposes. The Volute model fully fits this dynamic, illustrating Val Saint Lambert's desire to combine the tradition of cut crystal with the modernity of lines, at a time when Belgian glassmaking still asserts its international reputation.
The dimensions are:
- Height: 28.5 centimeters,
- Width: 13 centimeters,
Maximum diameter: 7 centimeters.
Diameter of the base: 9 centimeters.
- Weight: 4000 grams.
The vase will be wrapped with great care and shipped quickly, securely, and insured. Local pickup and combined delivery are available. The photos are part of the description.
