Exhibition director was the German photographer and teacher Dr. Otto Steinert (1915-1978), later (since 1973): Professor Dr. Otto Steinert, head of the specialised photography class in Saarbrücken and later charismatic and highly influential teacher at "Folkwang School" in Essen.
Otto Steinert is the most important protagonist of "Subjektive Fotografie".
Otto Steinert's three exhibitions called "Subjektive Fotografie" are the most important ones in Germany in the time after the second world war.
Otto Steinert's students include well-known photographers, photography teachers and curators such as Vicente del Amo, Monika von Boch, Harald Boockmann, Kilian Breier, Adolf Clemens, Erich vom Endt, Ute Eskildsen, André Gelpke, Arno Jansen, Bernd Jansen, Guido Mangold, Stephan Morgenstern, Harry S. Morgan, Detlef Orlopp, Timm Rautert, Dirk Reinartz, Heinrich Riebesehl and Michael Wolf.
In 1953 Otto Steinert founded the important German post-war photo group "fotoform" (together with Wolfgang Reisewitz, Ludwig Windstoßer, Peter Keetman, Toni Schneiders and Siegfried Lauterwasser).
Today, Otto Steinert is considered one of the most important and influential photographers in post-war Germany.
