AI-assisted summary

Description from the seller

Processional of the Order of the Friars Preachers, Venice, L. A. Giunta, 12 December 1517.

What is offered is an extremely rare and early edition of a Dominican Processional, a liturgical book with chants, prayers, and rubrics for processions of the Order of Preachers. This edition has been carefully revised and expanded with additional prayers. The first printing took place in 1494 in Seville.

The book is printed in red and black and equipped with a woodcut title, a red Florentine Lily, three of the four full-page woodcuts, numerous woodcut initials, and many smaller text woodcuts.

The book is bound in a blind-embossed contemporary binding, with the spine somewhat restored. The front cover is slightly loose, the clasps are missing. On the endpapers there are inscriptions in an older hand; the last endpaper bears an ink blot. Three leaves (pp. 108–110) are missing. The work is slightly browning in places and has a few stains. On the title page there are old ownership marks.

Collation: 4 sheets, 119 sheets (recte 147), 1 sheet
