In this image, I wanted to move away from the traditional depiction of a landscape towards surrealist personification. To me, Earth is not just the ground beneath our feet, but a living, feeling organism that observes us.
Flying island of matter. The central element is a suspended chunk of earth in a vacuum. Its irregular shapes and porous, almost sculptural texture convey the natural character of rocks and soil. I wanted the viewer to feel its weight, even though it hovers in an undefined space.
Oko – center of consciousness: Placing a realistic, blue eye at the very heart of the rocky form is the most important point of the work. This eye is not aggressive; it is more of a witness – observing with melancholy, calmness, and perhaps even reproach. It symbolizes the 'soul of the world,' which sees everything we do.
I used cool, blurred blues and grays with visible streaks that may evoke rain, tears, or melting glaciers. This vertical dynamic of the background contrasts with the static, hard central form, creating an atmosphere of loneliness and fragility in the vastness of the universe.
Creating 'Earth,' I asked myself: what if the planet could look at us? I wanted to encourage the viewer to pause and feel this relationship. Small fragments of rock floating around the main mass symbolize the process of decay, but the blue of the eye reminds us of hope and the intelligence of nature, which still endures.
It is a portrait of responsibility, but also of the extraordinary bond we have with this 'piece of rock' that gives us life.
