Press:
For several years, Ralf Altrieth has been painting episodes from an imaginary and fantastical world that he seems to have created entirely on his own. [...] His works challenge our certainties. They delve beneath the surface of things to focus on their essence.
Louis Doucet, art critic
In a game of depth and superposition, with an alternation of forms that converge inward or extend outward, Ralf Altrieth mixes genres, images, and styles, making them clash.
I learned an important thing from the painting of certain painters, whom I feel close to (Basquiat, Penck, Bendix Harms, Baselitz, Garouste, Picasso...): it is radicality. I try to push painting further. Painting is something greater than myself. Radicality allows us to go further, to detach ourselves, to see more. Today, I find that by painting, I am creating myself.
